Consultation workshop: wildlife parts identification guidebook

On 20 May 2025, Greenhood Nepal, in collaboration with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), organised a consultation workshop to gather insights and feedback on the wildlife parts identification guidebook currently under development. The guidebook aims to support frontline law enforcement officials in the visual identification of the most commonly traded wildlife and plant species, as well as their parts and derivatives.

The workshop brought together 15 participants, representing government agencies, scientific authorities, law enforcement bodies, and academia. The discussion focused on the selection of species, the scope and content of the guidebook, as well as its layout and design. The feedback gathered from the workshop will help ensure that the guidebook is comprehensive, practical, and user-friendly for frontline enforcement officials.

This initiative is a part of Greenhood Nepal’s ongoing project, supported by the UK Government’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund. The project aims to understand the needs of frontline law enforcement agencies in controlling IWT and develop field resources to help detect and identify wildlife species and their trade parts.
