Environmental crime is one of the biggest threats to biodiversity conservation and also to local communities. Greenhood is committed to supporting the Nepal Government to act against the illegal wildlife trade and support more legal and sustainable trade on a case-by-case basis. Our team leads projects to monitor wildlife trade and support local communities, transportation staff, customs officials, and law enforcement with training, information and behaviour change programs.

We monitor poaching, wildlife trade, and environmental rule-breaking to understand the scope, methods, and networks involved. Our analysis helps identify patterns, networks and the extent of the threats and provides valuable information to guide enforcement and conservation actions. We support law enforcement by offering specialized training to enhance skills in detecting and handling wildlife crimes. We also share intelligence to improve coordination between agencies and develop resources such as identification guides and toolkits to strengthen anti-poaching and anti-trafficking operations.

Also, based on evidence generated by our research, we design targeted awareness and behaviour change programs to deter people from participating in nature crimes and promote behaviours that help protect wildlife and support local wellbeing. We periodically evaluate our efforts to adapt, improve, and expand successful strategies, ensuring long-term conservation.
