Ashmita Shrestha

Ashmita Shrestha is an aspiring conservationist interested in freshwater turtle conservation. She has a master’s in environmental science from Tribhuvan University and has completed the Master Herpetologist Program at The Amphibian Foundation, USA. She is also a member of the IUCN SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialists Group. At Greenhood, she leads the freshwater ecosystem conservation programs. Currently, she is working on a project that explores the threats to the critically endangered elongated tortoise and raises conservation awareness on the species in its habitat in eastern Nepal. Ashmita also uses writing and art to convey conservation messages to the masses. She has contributed to Global Youth Biodiversity Network Nepal as a campaign and advocacy coordinator from 2020 to 2021. When not dealing with her favorite turtles and their conservation, Ashmita can be found sketching and painting.
